The 30th anniversary of the Academic Year

Cambodia’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Lok Chumteav Men Sam An presides over here on Thursday the 30^th anniversary of the Academic Year (Sept. 24, 1979-Sept. 24, 2009).

Addressing the ceremony, Lok Chumteav Men Sam An recalled the first academic year situation in 1979 after the downfall of Khmer Rouge genocidal regime, in which Cambodia educational field faced with the untold difficulties such as lack of school materials and human resources and there were only some 500,000 students and 20,000 teachers in the countrywide.

In this 2008-2009 academic year, the students’ figures have reached over 2,000,000 and 45,000 teachers.
