The ACMECS Senior Officials’ Meeting


The ACMECS Senior Officials’ Meeting Ayeyawady-Chao Praya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy was organized in Phnom Penh on August 23 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and chaired by H.E. Hang Chuon Narong, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Supreme National Economic Council and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance with the participations of delegates from ACMECS members countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to review the progress in the implementation of ACMECS plan of action and projects and to prepare the 4th ACMECS summit, which will be held on 16-17 November 2010 in Cambodia.

ADB Pledges to Provide US$597.7 Million to Cambodia


Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Keat Chhon, Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Putu Kumayama, ADB Director to Cambodia hold a working meeting here yesterday on the draft documents of the cooperation financial plans to Cambodia for 2011-2013.

Under the documents, ADB plans to provide Cambodia with USD 558.5 millions for the development of 23 projects and another USD 39.2 millions for technical assistance of 36 projects.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presides over here yesterday the launching ceremony of the Policy Paper on the Promotion of Paddy Production and Rice Export.

Addressing the ceremony, Premier Techo Hun Sen said the Royal Government of Cambodia had set 2015 as a year to materialize the country’s goal to become one of the major rice exporters.

Prime Minister Hun Sen further said that in order to boost the rice sector’s development, the government will insure 50 percent of risk to commercial banks that lend to rice farming, processing and storing.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen receives here today a delegation of DK Fund of the Republic of Korea led by its President Mr. Dong Koo Kim.

During the meeting, Mr. Dong Koo Kim told Cambodian leader that he will provide scholarships to Cambodian poor students for a 10-year period from 2010 to continue their studies in the country and has also conducted a study to establish a vocational training centre in Preah Sihanouk province.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen meets here yesterday with ASEAN Secretary General Mr. Surin Pitsuwan, who is leading a 30- member delegation of Muslim to Cambodia for strengthening relations and to attend an ASEAN forum on disaster management.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Techo Hun Sen and ASEAN Secretary General Mr. Surin Pitsuwan stressed that friendly relations and cooperation must be maintained and any move that escalates the tension shall not be attached. They had also shared views on the need of patience, an avoidance of further armed clashes, refraining from war of words, and to resolve the matter peacefully.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Hor Namhong has reaffirmed Cambodia’s stand in solving the current border dispute with Thailand by peaceful means.

In a meeting here today with visiting ASEAN Secretary General H.E. Surin Pitsuwan, the Cambodian deputy prime minister further stressed that Cambodia is ready to defend its territorial integrity against any act of aggression.

Both sides also discussed about ASEAN Community establishment, the cooperation between ASEAN and other regional organizations including the African Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, etc. in order to enhance ASEAN’s prestige and to fight against terrorism, said H.E. The National Program for Sub-National Democratic Development




Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen addresses the audiences in Phnom Penh yesterday while he was presiding over the launching ceremony of the National Program for Sub-National Democratic Development (2010-2019) with the participations of senators, lawmakers, senior government officials from all ministries, institutions, provincial and municipal governors, foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations to Cambodia.

In his keynote speech, Premier Techo Hun Sen said the success in the implementation of the national program is completely depending on the methods and the active participations of all relevant partners.

Concerning Cambodian-Thai border issue, Samdech Techo Hun Sen has appealed to hold an international conference to help solve the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. Prime Minister Hun Sen’s comment came a day after he wrote to UN’s Security Council President Vitaly Churkin, and UN’s General Assembly President Ali Abdussalam Treki to inform them that Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has threatened to use military force to resolve the border issue.

Premier Techo Hun Sen called on an international conference which will include ASEAN member countries, UN’s Security Council, International Court of Justice and Paris Accord’s country members.

Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An, Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers holds a press conference at Phnom Penh International Airport on August 7 upon his returning from the participation of the 34th World Heritage Committee Meeting held in Brasilia, Brazil.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Sok An said the World Heritage Committee (WHC) is asking UNESCO to support Cambodia to go ahead with the management plan of Preah Vihear by establishing an international coordinating committee (ICC) for the sustainable conservation for the U.N. listed temple of Preah Vihear in 2008.

Deputy Prime Minister Sok An further told the press that the World Heritage Committee and World Heritage Center are pleased with the submitted by Cambodia since February this year the documents and reports about the management plan of Preah Vihear.
