H.E. Khieu Kanharith donates two televisions and two DTV satellite dishes to Schools in Kompong Cham province




Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith donates two televisions and two DTV satellite dishes to Pong Ro Primary and Chi Her Secondary Schools in Kompong Cham province’s Koh Sotin district on Wednesday.

Moreover, the minister has helped rebuild a Buddha statue at Pong Ro pagoda which was destroyed by the storm last week, reconstruct the river bank, which damaged by landslide and planted saplings along the roadside of school and pagoda in the same district by using his own fund with the amount of US$ 2,000.

H.E. Khieu Kanharith also pledged to donate two more power generators and two televisions for use at the above-mentioned schools and communal office.

The national policy on the indigenous development of ethnic minority groups, land registration and rights of land usage



A meeting to disseminate the national policy on the indigenous development of ethnic minority groups, land registration and rights of land usage was held here on Wednesday under the presidency of H.E. Senior Minister Im Chhun Lim, minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, H.E. Chea Sophara, minister of Rural Development with the participation of representatives of relevant institutions and development partners.

Samdech Hun Sen meets with a visiting Thai National Assembly President



A visiting Thai National Assembly President H.E. Mr. Chai Chidchop meets here Thursday with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

During the meeting, Cambodian Premier said that the two countries should minimize the dispute and promote the cooperation instead as last year the volume of trade exchange between the two nations has reached some US$ 1.7 billion, including some US$ 1.4 billion were exported to Cambodia while only US$ 300 million imported into Thailand.

In reply, H.E. Chai Chidchop said the dispute will not good for the relations, particularly the commercial field between the two countries. He added that the two sides should prevent from any future armed clashes and should transform the border areas into a peaceful, stability and development border instead.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen presides over here on Wednesday the closing workshop on “The Spectacle of Khmer Arts: 30-Year Surviving and Development” organized by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.

Addressing the workshop, Cambodian premier appealed to all mass media networks such as TV and radio stations to promote the broadcasting of the spectacles of Khmer arts in order to attract the Cambodian youth to their own culture, which is challenging the deep downturn in the current cultural environment.

Moreover, he also pushed for more art performances and concerts by using the real Khmer musical instruments to serve foreign tourists to Cambodia.

Samdech Heng Samrin meets with a visiting Thai National Assembly President



Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhear Chakrei Heng Samrin meets here Thursday afternoon with a visiting Thai National Assembly President H.E. Mr. Chai Chilchop.

On the occasion, H.E. Mr. Chai Chidchop told Samdech Heng Samrin that Thailand will try its best to solve the border dispute and will cooperate with Cambodian side in searching for the missing border posts in order to complete the border markers’ plantation.

For his parts, Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin said the border conflict between our two countries have reached more than one year so far, but Cambodia is seeking ways and means to solve the conflict peacefully.

Samdech Heng Samrin further said that we have discussed the border issue during IPA meeting in Singapore and we also affirmed that the two sides should speed up the border markers’ plantation.

Also on the occasion, National Assembly President Heng Samrin accepted the invitation from his Thai counterpart to attend the upcoming meeting in Pattaya, Thailand.

Samdech Chea Sim meets with a visiting Thai National Assembly President



Cambodian Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Thomma Pothisal Chea Sim receives here this Thursday afternoon a visiting Thai National Assembly President H.E. Mr. Chai Chidchop.

During the meeting, Samdech Chea Sim said that Cambodia wishes to solve the border dispute with Thailand by peaceful means.

In reply, Thai National Assembly President H.E. Chai Chidchob told Samdech Chea Sim that his visit to Cambodia this time is aimed at further strengthen and consolidate the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies. H.E. Chai Chidchob also agreed with what Cambodian Senate President Samdech Chea Sim has raised.

A newly appointed Ambassador of Russian Federation to Cambodia Mr. Alexander Ignatov pays a courtesy visit to Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhear Chakrei Heng Samrin in Phnom Penh on July 21.

On the occasion, the Russian ambassador told Samdech Heng Samrin that so far the Russian investment in Cambodia has reached some USD 600 million, particularly on the field of tourism and trade exchanges.

In reply, Samdech Heng Samrin asked the Russian diplomat to push for more Russian investors to Cambodia.

He further said that he will lead a delegation of Cambodia’s National Assemly to pay an official visit to Russia in November.

H.E Sok An meets with Outgoing Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia



Outgoing Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia Mr. Katsuhiro Shinohara bids farewell here on July 21 to Cambodian Deputy Prime H.E Sok An, cabinet minister, upon completed his diplomatic mission to Cambodia.

The strengthening of the cooperation and relationship between Cambodia and France








Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen together with his wife Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen shakes hands with H.E. Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, French Ambassador to Cambodia Mr. Jean Francoir Desmazieres and other senior government officials, upon his arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport on July 19 after concluding his official visit to France from July 10 at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic of France.
During his stay in France, Prime Minister Techo Hun Sen has attended the French Military Parade on July 14, met separately with France President H.E. Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, Prime Minister Mr. Francois Fillon and Foreign Minister Mr. Bernard Kouchner, in which the meetings have reached the fruitful results on the strengthening of the cooperation and relationship between the two countries.
During the meeting, France president has agreed all the requests proposed by Cambodian premier by confirming that France considers providing the financial concession as the priority for the continuous building of Cambodia. Both sides have agreed to set up a joint committee for the cooperation in framework of partnership.

H.E. Keat Chhon inspects the construction sites of Prek Tamak Bridge




Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Keat Chhon, minister of Economy and Finance on July 17, inspects the construction sites of Prek Tamak Bridge and the portion of National Road No.8 from Kandal province’s Ksach Kandal district to Vietnamese border.
According to a report of the Shanghai Construction (Group) General Company of China, which is constructing the 1,066 meter-long by 13.5 meter-wide bridge, the construction has so far achieved some 67% of its works and it expected to be completed in 2010, while the 109 km- long national road No. 8 has achieved some 64% of its work and expected to complete in 2011.

Samdech Heng Samrin meets with Cuban Ambassador to Cambodia


Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhear Chakrei Heng Samrin meets here Thursday with Cuban Ambassador to Cambodia Mrs. Gilda Lopez Amenteros.
During the meeting, the Cuban diplomat has urged Samdech Heng Samrin as well as appeal to international community to intervene to US administration for releasing five Cuban citizens, who were arrested by US authority.
Also on the occasion, she handed over the formal invitation letter of president of Cuban People’s Parliament to Cambodia’s National Assembly President Heng Samrin to pay a visit to Cuba.
In reply, Samdech Heng Samrin said the Cambodia’s National Assembly will review and discuss the issue with Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Commission. He also accepted the invitation to visit Cuba at any appropriate time.

H.E Sok An meets with World Bank’s director in charge of Asia-Pacific Region


Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister H.E Sok An, cabinet minister meets here on July 15 with Ms. Annette Dixson, World Bank’s director in charge of Asia-Pacific Region.
In the meeting, Ms. Annette Dixson told H. E Sok An over World Bank’s decision to provide more financial assistance to the royal government of Cambodia to support its national budget to promote the agricultural field and social security.
For his parts, Cambodian deputy premier briefed his guests over Cambodia’s development in reforming the public administration and the process of the creation of anti-corruption law, which already sent to the national assembly for the approval.

H.E Sok An meets with a newly appointed Ambassador of Myanmar to Cambodia


Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E Sok An, minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers meets here on July 15 with a newly appointed Ambassador of Myanmar to Cambodia, Mr. U Swin Shein.
On the occasion, Cambodian deputy premier told the Burmese diplomat over the Royal Government of Cambodia’s stance in maintaining the respect of the Myanmar’s sovereignty and not to interfere into Burma’s internal affairs.
He added that Cambodia’s objective is to strengthen the cooperation and friendship between the two countries, Cambodia-Myanmar.

Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith inspects the concrete road construction at Pong Ro Keurt village, Pong Ro commune, Koh Sotin district, Kampong Cham province on July 14.
A 450-meter long by 5-meter wide concrete road is being built by the minister’s personal fund together with other charities fund of his colleagues with the total amount of more than USD30, 000. The road construction was started on July 7, 2009 and is expected to complete at the end of this month.

Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith meets here on Wednesday with Mr. Peng Gang, President of China Guangxi Television.
During the meeting, H.E. Khieu Kanharith told his guests that currently there are nine television stations, including one National Television Station (TVK) and 8 other commercial TV stations, are running in the kingdom. US Ambassador to Cambodia Mrs Carol Rodley addresses the 2nd Opening Ceremony of Spokesperson Training for Cambodian Civil Officers here on July 13.
In her keynote address, the US diplomat said: As you know, any government’s relationship with the media is not always easy. This is true in the United States, in Cambodia and in all countries that respect free speech.
The reality is that public officials, private companies and the media need each other and that their relationship is mutually beneficial. The government needs the media to communicate with its people and the media needs the government to provide information which keeps the papers and television stations running. This information exchange allows both bodies – the government and the media – to fulfill their primary duty which is to serve and to inform, the people.

A MOU on Cooperation between NIDA and Viettel Corporation




A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) On Cooperation in the Field of ICT between NIDA and Viettel Corporation was signed here on July 10 by Mr. Chun Vat, Deputy Secretary General of NIDA and Mr. Nguyen Ducquang, Viettel’s director general under the presidency of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E Sok An, cabinet minister.
Addressing the ceremony, H.E Sok An said the signing of the above-said MOU is an opportunity for the partners to establish a concrete direction for the implementation of IT plans.

The 2nd Opening Ceremony of Spokesperson Training for Cambodian Civil Officers




Cambodia’s Information Minister H.E Khieu Kanharith and US Ambassador to Cambodia Mrs. Carol Rodney preside over here this Monday morning the 2nd Opening Ceremony of Spokesperson Training for Cambodian Civil Officers, which was jointly organized by the Ministry of Information and the US Embassy here from July 13 to 17.
Addressing the ceremony, H.E Khieu Kanharith emphasized that the spokespersons do not work only with the media, but they have to work with the whole public opinion and people.
He added that despite we have a small number of trainees in this course, but it created a favorable opportunity for trainees and trainer to have a good relations and the trainer can provide her good experience to the trainees as well.
The course is being taught by Ms. Tammy R. Van Dame, a former spokeswoman for the US Army.

Samdech Hun Sen departures for an official visit to France

Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and other senior government officials as well as foreign diplomatic corps to Cambodia, prior to his departure at Phnom Penh International Airport for an official visit to France, at the invitation of H.E. Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic of France.
Premier Techo Hun Sen was accompanied by his wife Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E Hor Namhong, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and other senior government officials.
During his stay in France from July 10 to 14, Prime Minister Techo Hun Sen is scheduled to meet with the France President H.E. Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, Prime Minister Mr. Francois Fillon and Foreign Minister Mr. Bernard Kouchner.
Besides, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will also attend the ceremony of French Military Parade as a guest of France’s President Nicolas Sakozy on July 14.

A closing ceremony of spokesperson training for Cambodian military and police officers







Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith presides over a closing ceremony of spokesperson training for Cambodian military and police officers held in Phnom Penh on July 10.
After thanks to trainer Ms Tanny R. Van Dame extended by a representative of the trainees and their commitments to the effective application gained from the knowledge of the spokesperson training, the information minister gave some comments, saying that as spokespersons, they should deal with the public opinion, mainly understanding social psychology and pulse, and what happened to their unit, regardless of an instruction given by their executive chief.
Meanwhile, the information minister awarded a certificate to a trainee in the spokesperson training course in which 22 military and police officers participated.
The course was co-organized by the ministry of Information and the US embassy in Cambodia.
