Lok Chumteav Men Sam An presides over the closing ceremony of the 19th Buddhist Monk Congress

Religion is animportant driving forcefor the country’s sustainable development, said here on Jan. 4 Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Mrs.Men SamAn at the closing ceremony of the 19th Buddhist Monks General Assembly.

“Religion has encouragedpeopleofallsocial stratatotakepart in the countrydevelopment, both in terms of finance and labor, and to contribute for accountability,transparencyand mastership in the development,” said Mrs. Men Sam An.

The permanent deputy prime minister, alsohighrepresentativeof Prime Minister SamdechAkkaMohaSena PadeiTechoHunSen, considered the 19thBuddhist Monks General Assembly’s resultsas very important.Allissuesraisedin the two-day general assembly contribute toresponding in timetothe currentproblemsfaced by the Buddhistmonksand followers who must coordinatetheirefforts topreventambition,ignoranceandotherbadacts harming human lifeandsocial order, she added.

Mrs. Men Sam Analsorecommendedthe monksat alllevelsto respectthe existing lawsand normstoenhanceBuddhism.

Shefinally stressed the royal government’s endeavorsin thedevelopment ofBuddhism, so as to strengthensolidarity and enhance the cultureofmutual understandingamongBuddhistsand all Cambodian people.
