The 35th meeting of UNESCO to be held in Paris of France

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An, minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers meets here on Oct. 8 with foreign diplomats from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China, Sweden, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam before leading a Cambodian delegation to join the 35^th meeting of UNESCO to be held in Paris of France.

On the occasion, Ms. Ngo Thi Hoa, Advisor to Vietnam’s Embassy in Phnom Penh, said her government fully supports the Cambodian candidacy as a member of the World Heritage Committee, while the other diplomats recognized that Cambodia has enough qualifications for this membership, but they have to wait for their respective governments’ decision.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E Sok An, minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers accompanied by his wife and a group of delegates leaves Phnom Penh International Airport on Oct. 8 to join the UNESCO 35^th General Conference, taking place in Paris of France.

At the airport, H.E Sok An told the media that this year, UNESCO General Conference will conduct the election to select the permanent members of the World Heritage Committee to replace 12 countries, which finish soon their mandate among 21 existing members from 168 countries as members of the International Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.

Cambodia is among 29 candidate countries for the election.

The 30th anniversary of the reconstruction of the National Bank of Cambodia

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen addresses his remarks while presiding over here yesterday the 30^th anniversary of the reconstruction of the National Bank of Cambodia.

On the occasion, the Cambodian premier said, “It is more difficult nowadays. World Bank and IMF have supervised me, forced me to listen to them too much if compared to the Vietnam’s experts during the time that Cambodia was considered under the Vietnamese colonialism, in which I have had the full rights for decision making on politics as well as on economic issues.”

Referring to WB’s request to provide relief aid to the Cambodian victims of typhoon Ketsana, Samdech Hun Sen said, “If WB does not want to help, please do not help. If it wants to help, please do not complain later.

I’m afraid that the help will become again a tied package (with imposed conditions for its assistance).”

H.E. Khieu Kanharith meets with Deputy Special Mission of the United Kingdom Embassy to Cambodia

Cambodia’s Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith meets here this morning with Ms. Lesley Saunderson, Deputy Special Mission of the United Kingdom Embassy to Cambodia.

On the occasion, the UK diplomat wished to know about the press freedom in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In reply, the Cambodian minister told his guest that the press freedom in Cambodia has a comprehensive characteristic in the region and particularly, reporters are entitled to run their own newspapers regardless their personal characteristic and qualification.

Samdech Hun Sen meets with Director of KTC of the Republic of Korea

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen meets with Mr. Kim Myung Ill, Director of KTC of the Republic of Korea at his residence in Kandal province’s Takhmao city on October 6.

On the occasion, Mr. Kim Myung Ill sought the support and recommendation from Cambodian premier as his company’s plans to build the electric lamp plant with low voltage power in Cambodia.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the company’s project and asked KTC to look into the investment for rice miller establishment as the country needs more rice millers.

KTC has been invested on a number of businesses here such as the golf course in Siem Reap province, Electrical Cable Plant in Phnom Penh. Moreover, the company has just completed its study on hydro-power and water treatment projects in Siem Reap province.

Samdech Hun Sen meets with MH Bio Energy Company

The representatives of Kandal province’s Ponhear Leu district-based MH Bio Energy Company pay a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen at his residence in Kandal province’s Takhmao city on October 7.

On the occasion, the guests have donated USD 20,000 and 100 tones of rice to the Royal Government of Cambodia for distribution to typhoon Ketsana’s victims.

In reply, Cambodian Premier Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he will forward the relief to Cambodian Red Cross, which would help some 3,300 victimized families.

Samdech Hun Sen meets with a delegation of Worldwide Petroleum Services

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen meets with a delegation of Worldwide Petroleum Services led by Mr. Stephen Bridge, former ambassador of United Kingdom to Cambodia at his residence in Kandal province’s Takhmao city on October 6.

During the meeting, Cambodian premier told the delegation that so far many companies have submitted their applications for oil exploration in Block-4. What the government of Cambodia is willing to see is the bidding to be conducted in a fair and transparency manner and the rights will be granted to the company, which will provide more benefit to Cambodia.
