Cambodia Rejects Thailand’s Request to Extradite Thaksin

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen told a press conference this morning at his Takhmao Residence upon the meeting with former Thai Premier Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra that Mr. Thaksin came to Cambodia this time in the name of my advisor and the Royal Government of Cambodia’s Economic advisor.

Prime Minister Hun Sen asked Thai people’s understanding to share times for Mr. Thaksin to help Cambodian economy, and he also impressed that Thai people need Mr. Thaksin to return to serve his nation, adding that as a Thai national, Mr. Thaksin wishes to serve his Thai people, but they don’t give a chance to him.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also showed a diplomatic note of Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation responded to Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, in which the note clearly stated that the Royal Government of Cambodia will neither temporally arrest nor extradite Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra.

China’s Pension Fund To Divert Some Funds to Invest in Cambodia

Chinese Bank is planning to open its commercial bank branch in Cambodia by using China’s Pension Fund for the investment.

The remark was made known here yesterday by Mr. Dai Xianglong, head of China's National Social Security Fund (NSSF), during a meeting here on Nov. 10 with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance H.E. Keat Chhon.

On the occasion, Mr. Dai said that some 20 percent of the Chinese total Pension Fund US$186 billion will be used for the investment in Asian countries, Cambodian financial ministry spokesperson told reporters after the meeting.

A delegation of the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam headed by its Vice Minister H.E. Do Quy Doan, accompanied by Cambodian Information Ministry’s Secretary of State H.E. Thach Phen, visit temples and other resorts in Siem Reap province from Nov. 9-10.

Thaksin Arrives to Cambodia

Ex-Thai Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Thaksin Shinawatra, an economic adviser to the Cambodian royal government and a private adviser to Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, arrives at military air base of Phnom Penh international airport today at 9.30 am for an official visit to Cambodia.

He was welcomed by H.E. Prak Sokhon, delegate minister to the royal government and secretary of state at the council of Ministers.

The First Japan-Mekong Summit in Tokyo

A high-level delegation of the Kingdom of Cambodia headed by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen backs home this afternoon after attending the First Japan-Mekong Summit in Tokyo, Japan from November 6-7.

Premier Techo Hun Sen and his accompanied members were warmly greeted on their arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport by Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sar Kheng, Minister of Interior; Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok An, Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers; and other senior government officials.

During his stay in Japan, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo held a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart H.E. Yokio Yatoyama, in which the Japanese Prime Minister pledged to help construct Cambodia’s Neak Leoung Bridge.

Speaking to the press upon his arrival at the airport, Samdech Hun Sen said that due to the border issue situation becoming calm, he plans to order Brigade 911 to pull out from the area within one week. He added that there is only the tense issue between Bangkok and Phnom Penh not between the whole Thai and Cambodian peoples.

He said that Thai Prime Minister Abhisit recalled his ambassador by the demand of a small group of the Thai Yellow T-Shirt and Cambodia just reciprocated. Premier Techo Hun Sen went on to say that there are some opinions mentioned that Thailand will shut its border with Cambodia, if there is true, Cambodia will reciprocate and will boycott all Thailand’s products by not allowing to enter Cambodian markets.

He further said that there are some countries that export their products to Cambodia. The volume of Thailand’s products exported to Cambodia in 2008 has reached some US$ 2,000 million, while Cambodia products imported to Thailand has reached only more than US$ 90 million.

“I would like to inform Mr. Abhisit that you don’t know how to allocate between the personal and national interests regarding the issue of Cambodia’s appointment of former Thai Premier Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra as economic advisor, he said, adding that Mr. Abhisit himself has spoiled the two peoples’ interests by throwing the interests into the trash.

H.E. Khieu Kanharith holds talks with a delegation of Vietnam

Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith holds talks here this morning with a delegation of the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam headed by its Vice Minister H.E. Do Quy Doan.

During the meeting, Cambodian Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith asked Vietnamese side to help train specialties and IT skills to Cambodian information officials.

In reply, H.E. Do Quy Doan has agreed with Cambodian Minister’s proposal and said that the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications will directly cooperate with Cambodian Information Ministry in organizing a short-term training course for Cambodian information officials, but for the long-term course, his ministry has to submit to the government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam first.
